Two meetings hosted by Latvian National Customs Board of the State Revenue Service (SRS), and organized with the support of EUCAB, strenghen customs expertise in risk management:
โœ“ from 17 to 18 February, a meeting of representatives of the EUCAB Coordination Unit on Training, Risk Management and Equipment;
โœ“ on 19 February, an advanced training on risk management for Latvian customs employees, in cooperation with officials from the Risk Management Division of the SRS.

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ During the first meeting, Elฤซna Cฤซrule presented the mission and responsibilities of the Risk Information Processing Unit of the Risk Management Division (SRS), that she heads, with a focus on remote and centralized analysis of scanned images of cargos and vehicles.
๐Ÿšจ Participants expressed genuine interest in discussing the diversity of missions and tasks of risk analysts in Member Statesโ€™ customs administrations, and addressed challenges affecting the creativity of risk analysis experts, highlighting the time limitation, high stress level and the consequences of making the wrong decision as main factors.

๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿปโ€๐ŸŽ“ The advanced training on risk management for Latvian customs employees was organized with the aim, โ€œnot to teach new things, ideas or working methods in the field of risk management, but to challenge experts to look at the risk analysis process from a different perspectiveโ€, to quote Elฤซna Cฤซrule.
๐Ÿค The need for impactful cooperation with expert data analysts, and support in the development of complex risk profiles, was emphasized. Participants shared trends in air cargo control and took part in practical exercises in order to better understand approaches to risk analysis techniques in different countries.
