Strengthening training for customs officers at land borders

    On 23–24 September 2025, the EUCAB Land Border Unit met in Sofia and at the Kalotina Border Crossing Point. The meeting, hosted by the Bulgarian Customs Agency, helped achieve two key results:

    • finalisation of the EUCAB Training Needs analysis;
    • adoption of a comprehensive Training Curriculum for land border customs control.

    It was also the opportunity for Bulgaria to present its Operational Guidelines for Customs Control of trucks, buses, and passenger cars. This innovative good practice will serve both operational and training purposes across Member States.

    The Bulgarian Customs Agency confirmed its full support for upcoming EUCAB activities: hosting the Land BCP Network Meeting in November 2025, participating in the Joint Control Activity “Black Flow Back”, and facilitating Border Crossing Point Diagnostics in 2026, including a dedicated assessment of Kapitan Andreevo border.

    Conducting diagnostic studies on the EU eastern external border

    From September 23 to 25, 2025, EUCAB land border unit conducted Diagnostic Studies at Bezledy and Grzechotki BCPs in Poland. These evaluations provided detailed assessments and practical recommendations to enhance efficiency, security, and risk-based controls at two of the busiest Polish border crossing points.

    The two activities highlight EUCAB’s capacity to deliver simultaneously on strategic and operational priorities across Europe – from the southern corridors to the eastern frontiers – ensuring harmonised approaches, enhanced cooperation, and direct support to customs officers on the ground.
