At Europe’s external land borders, customs officers work under complex and dynamic conditions – balancing the need for efficient border flow with the imperative to detect and prevent illicit trade.

The EUCAB Land Border Unit supports these efforts by turning strategic objectives into operational actions – with a strong focus on tools, methods, and solutions that directly assist officers on the ground.

🧭 Our goal is simple but ambitious:
To make EUCAB as operational as possible – relevant, responsive, and valuable to those who protect the EU’s borders every day.

🔍 What we do:
The Land Border Unit works with Member States to:
✔ Develop and test innovative working methods to improve customs controls at BCPs
✔ Coordinate efforts related to key risks such as drugs, weapons, dual-use goods, and undeclared cash
✔ Collect and analyse statistical data and threat assessments
✔ Conduct Joint Control Activities (JCAs) that bring together officers from different countries to work side-by-side on real operational cases
✔ Carry out BCP Diagnostic Studies that help identify gaps, measure performance, and propose practical improvements
✔ Map existing customs control equipment and gather real user experience to understand what works best in practice

Diagnostics and JCAs are not just tools for reporting – they are key instruments for improvement. They help enhance daily work conditions, guide practical investments, and ensure that field officers have the means and confidence to act effectively.
