Ports contribute to 75% of EU external trade volumes and 31% of EU internal trade volumes. 70% of drugs seizures made by customs take place in ports.

๐Ÿ›ฅ๏ธ๐ŸŒŠ EUCABโ€™s Maritime Unit focuses on operational cooperation of customs administrations operating in a maritime environment: seaports and inland ports. It aims to ensure that customs work more efficiently, effectively and quickly to achieve a level playing field in terms of security and safety between EU ports. It also covers trade facilitation in this environment.

    โ— Our priorities:
โœ”๏ธ Share the lessons learned in terms of equipment, innovation, training, risk management, control and cooperation with other national and third country authorities
โœ”๏ธ Signal trends in drug smuggling โ€“ including precursors and NPS (new psychoactive substances) โ€“ as well as all fiscal and non-fiscal customs violations
โœ”๏ธ Identify vulnerabilities and devise solutions to increase resilience in ports (logistics, information, staff) and avoid a waterbed effect.

    ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Our method:
๐Ÿงฉ Building up networks of customs authorities and experts
๐Ÿงฉ Creating an environment in which customs can learn from each other through experiences and best practices sharing
๐Ÿงฉ Structuring relationships with third parties at a multilateral level and with the private sector
๐Ÿงฉ Providing trainings for customs officers

The Maritime Unit stands for building up – in a collaborative way – tangible results for fighting criminal activities and customs infringements at EU maritime borders.

It brings together 12 committed experts with rich and complementary experience in seaports and riverports. It is supported by networks of national experts who warrant the project’s operational outlook.
